Senator John McCain Dies at 81

 

August 26, 2018 - Senator John McCain of Arizona, the 2008 Republican Party presidential nominee, died yesterday. McCain served his county for over 60 years as Navy Officer and United States Senator. In the 1980's, McCain began his political career in Arizona by first being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and then to the U.S. Senate in 1986. Nicknamed the Maverick for his fierce independent spirt, McCain initially sought the presidency in 2000. Though he lost the nomination to George W. Bush in 2000, McCain successfully won 2008 Republican Party Presidential nomination.

Upon his death McCain received praise from both Republicans and Democrats as an American hero who had a deep and enduring love for the United States of America.

Happy Birthday Herbert Hoover!!!!

Herbert Hoover Campaign Button August 10, 2018 - Today marks 144th birthday of the 31st President of the United States Herbert Hoover. Born in West Branch , Iowa , Hoover held several posts in the federal government. He served as the Director of The Untied States Food Administration under President Woodrow Wilson. Under Presidents Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge , Hoover served as the Secretary Of Commerce. In 1928 , Hoover would succeed Coolidge when he was elected president of the United States. Hoover would serve one term as president , as he was defeated for re-election in 1932 by Franklin Roosevelt. The Hoover Dam was named in his honor. Herbert Hoover campaign buttons continue to serve as a legacy of his pollical career. 

Warren Leads Democrats In 2020 New Hampshire Poll

May 3 , 2018 - A new poll of potential 2020 New Hampshire voters shows the Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts is leading all Democratic White House hopefuls. Warren has the support of 26% , followed by former Vice President Joe Biden at 20% and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont at 13%.

In fourth place was Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey at 8%. Each tied at 4% were Senator Kamala Harris of California and former Massachusetts Governor Duval Patrick. Finally coming in at 2% each were Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

 

1980 3rd Party Presidential Candidate John Anderson Dead at 95

John Anderson for President campaign button.December 6 , 2017 - Former Illinois Republican Congressman John Anderson who waged a highly publicized run for the White House in 1980 has died at 95. First elected to Congress in 1960 , Anderson Anderson Lucey 1980 campaign button.began his presidential bid by entering the 1980 Republican presidential  primaries. He would go on to finish second in the Vermont and Massachusetts GOP contests. In April 1980 , Anderson dropped  out of the Republican primaries and began his third party quest for the Oval Office.

For a running mate in the general election against Republican Ronald Reagan and Democrat Jimmy Carter , Anderson selected Patrick Lucey who had served as the Democratic Governor of Wisconsin from 1971 - 1977. On September 21 ,1980 in Baltimore , Maryland,  Anderson debated Reagan on national TV  though Carter had refused to participate in the debate. 

On election day in November , 1980 , Anderson would receive 7% of the vote which was the best showing by a third party presidential candidate since George Wallace in 1968.
